The process of admission into the PhD Programme (for all subjects) of Gauhati University for the academic session 2016-17 is now online. The Central Application Process (CAP) leading to GU Research Eligibility Test (GU-RET 2016) will be activated on 20 April, 2016.

Eligibility

  1. You MUST have passed Masters level examination from a university / institute recognised by the UGC.
  1. You MUST have secured at least 55% or Grade B equivalent in your Masters examination
  1. Qualifying Examination : For admission into the PhD Programme of GU, you MUST have passed a course which is equivalent to the two-year Masters Programme that we have here, which is usually taken after twelve (12) years of school and three (3) years of undergraduate course, completing a total of 15 years of education. That is, you MUST have had 17 years of formal education before you can be admitted into a PhD Programme. Though this may vary depending on different disciplines.
  1. Students appearing in the final qualifying examination (viz. 4th Semester of Masters Programme) are eligible to apply in CAP and appear in GU-RET 2016. However, their admission into the PhD Programme is subject to successful completion of the Masters Programme.
A relaxation of 5% is applicable to reserved category students.

V. ‘Application login situated in the to menu bar, on Application login screen will appear. Sign in your account using your “Applications Number” your Date of Birth’ You will be taken to the Application Login page.
VI. Next, you can view the Application form and you can print of the Application form the in right side click print option. Take of print out of your Application form. You cannot edit the form, you can Change your photo and signature only.
VII. You can change your photo and Signature only.

Documents Submission Procedure-

Candidates shall have to apply Separate for each post the Candidates should enclose the following along with the filled in online application form (Copies of Certificates should be self attested)
1. Signed 3(three) Copies of recent passport size photograph.
2. Certificate in Support of age (Admit Card HSLC)
3. Passed mark sheet and Certificate.

Selection Procedure-

There will be separate written and for district Co-ordinator and District in-charge and those who qualify in the written test will have to appear in oral interview.
For the post of District Co-ordinator, they written test (Multiple choice question) of one paper will carry 75 marks the written test will be held on the Subject General Studies and English,
For the post of district in-charge, the written test (Multiple choices question) of one paper will carry 75 marks. The written test will be held on the subject General Studies, English and Arithmetic.

Combined Gradute Level(CGL) 2016 Examination has been Postponed to Augest-2016

 
 
The staff selection commission is revamping the existing modality of conducting the Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE), 2016.  Accordingly, the CGLE, 2016, which was scheduled to be held on 8th and 22nd May 2016, has been postponed and would now be held in the month of August, 2016. The exact dates for the Tier-1 Examination would be hosted on the Commission's website shortly. This decision has been taken in the larger interest of the candidates appearing for this examination.

CBSE UGC NET July 2016 Notification (National Eligibility Test)

CBSE has issued notification for the National Eligibility Test (NET) and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) Examination to be conducted on 10th July 2016 (Sunday).
Eligible candidates can apply online for UGC-NET July 2016 Exam from 12th April 2016 to 12th May 2016 at CBSE-NET website www.cbsenet.nic.in

National Eligibility Test (NET)-2016

Junior Research Fellowship / Eligibility for Lectureships
On behalf of UGC, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) shall hold the National Eligibility Test (NET) on 10th July 2016 (Sunday) for determining the eligibility of Indian Nationals for the Eligibility for Assistant Professor only or Junior Research Fellowship & Eligibility for Assistant Professor Both in Indian Universities and Colleges
CBSE will conduct NET in 83 subjects at 88 selected Cities of Examination spread across the country
The candidates who qualify for the award of Junior Research Fellowship are eligible to pursue research in the subject of their post-graduation or in a related subject and are also eligible for Assistant Professor. The universities, institutions, IITs and other national organizations may select the JRF awardees for whole time research work in accordance with the procedure prescribed by them
The award of JRF and Eligibility for Assistant Professor both OR Eligibility for Assistant Professor only will depend on the performance of the candidate in all three papers of NET
However, the candidates qualifying exclusively for Assistant Professor will not be considered for award of JRF

Junior Research Fellowship

Candidates qualifying for the award of Junior Research Fellowship will be eligible to receive fellowship of UGC under various schemes, subject to their finding placement in universities/IITs/institutions
The validity period of the offer is two years w.e.f. the date of issue of JRF Award Letter. However, in case the candidates who have already joined M.Phil / PhD, the date of commencement of fellowship shall be from the date of declaration of NET result or date of their joining, whichever is later

Scheme and Exam Schedule

The Test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will consist of only objective type questions and will be held on 10th July 2016
First (Paper-I): 100 Marks (60 out of which 50 questions to be attempted) [Duration: 1¼ Hours (09.30 am to 10.45 am, IST)]
Second (Paper-II): 100 Marks (50 questions all are compulsory) [Duration: 1¼ Hours (11.15 am to 12.30 pm, IST)]
Third (Paper-III): 150 Marks (75 questions all are compulsory) [Duration: 2½ Hours (02.00 pm to 04.30 pm, IST)]
All the questions of Paper-II and Paper-III will be compulsory, covering entire syllabus (including all electives, without options)
The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) Sheet provided alongwith the test booklet

UGC NET Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree (Or) equivalent exam from universities/institutions recognised by UGC (list attached page No.22 to 48) in Humanities (including Languages) and Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science etc (list of subjects of post graduation attached at page No. 18 to 19) are eligible for this Test
The Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to Non-creamy Layer/SC/ST/PWD Category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent exam are eligible for this Test
Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Master’s degree (final year) exam and whose result is still awaited or candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this test
However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of Junior Research Fellowship/eligibility for Assistant professor only after they have passed their Master’s Degree Exam (Or) equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% marks in case of OBC(Non-creamy layer) / SC/ ST /PWD (Persons with Disability) category candidates
Such candidates must complete their PG Degree Exam within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified
The PhD Degree holders whose Master’s Level Exam had been completed by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55% to 50%) for appearing in NET
Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post graduation only. The candidates, whose post graduation subject is not covered in the list of subjects in item No.14 (on page 12-13), may appear in a related subject
Candidates are neither required to send any certificates/documents in support of their eligibility nor printout of their Application Form (Confirmation Page) to CBSE
Candidates having post-graduate diploma/certificate awarded by Indian University/Institute or foreign degree/diploma/certificate awarded by the foreign University/institute should in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their diploma/degree/certificate with Master’s degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi

Age Limit & Relaxation

(i) Junior Research Fellowship: Not more than 28 years as on 01st July 2016. A relaxation up to 5 years is provided to the candidates belonging to OBC (Non-creamy layer, as per the Central list of OBC available on website www.ncbc.nic.in) SC/ST/PWD categories and to women applicants
Relaxation will also be provided to the candidates having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years, on production of a certificate from appropriate authority
Three years relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates possessing LLM degree; total age relaxation on the above ground(s) shall not exceed five years under any circumstances
(ii) Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit for applying for eligibility for Assistant Professor

Exemption (Eligibility for Assistant Professor)

i) NET/SLET/SET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in Universities/Colleges/Institutions. Provided however, that candidates, who are or have been awarded a PhD degree in accordance with the UGC Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SELT/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities/Colleges/Institutions
ii) The candidates who have passed the UGC/CSIR JRF Exam prior to 1989 are also exempted from appearing in NET
iii) For SET Candidates: The candidates who have cleared the States Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Assistant Professor held prior to 01st December 2002, are exempted from appearing in NET, being eligible to apply for Assistant Professor anywhere in India

Exam Fee and Mode of Payment

For General candidates, the examination fee is Rs.600/-; for Other Backward Classes (Non-creamy layer, as per the Central list of OBC available on website www.ncbc.nic.in, the fee is Rs.300/- and for SC/ST/PWD candidates, it is Rs.150/-
i) The candidates may pay the exam fee either by credit/debit card or through e-challan generated during the online filling of the application form. In case of e-challan the payment should be made in the Syndicate/Canara/ICICI Bank
In case the exam fee is paid through credit/debit card the additional processing charges as following will also be debited from the credit/debit card of the candidate. The fee can be remitted in the following ways:
>>Through e-Challan by deposit of prescribed fees in CBSE Account with Syndicate Bank, ICICI, HDFC and Canara Bank
>>By Debit/Credit Card
ii) After filling all the details for applying online for NET, the candidate will have the option to select the mode of payment of exam fee either by credit/debit card or through e-challan generated during the online filling of the application form indicating your details therein
iii) The candidate is required to check the status of fee payment at CBSE website (www.cbsenet.nic.in) and if the status is ‘Ok’ the candidate will be able to take the printout of online Application Form (one copy), Attendance Slip (one copy) and Admission Card (one copy) on separate A-4 size papers. In case, the fee payment status is not ‘OK’ the candidate are advised as following:
> If the fee is paid through e-challan by depositing cash in the above mentioned bank, the candidate should contact immediately the concerned bank to update his/her fee status on the website
> If the fee is paid through credit/debit card and status is not ‘OK’, it means the transaction is cancelled and the amount will be refunded to concerned credit/debit card within a week. Such candidates have to pay the fee once again
